Visionary
All my fantasy illustrations’ including my fairies seek to embody beauty and romanticism with the quirky and extraordinary.
My series of mermaid illustrations reflect my ongoing obsession with the sea for which the motif of the mermaid is an integral part of the design. Each incorporates architecture and natural organic forms particularly spiral staircases and spiral shells. Gothic fan vaulted cathedrals and the black Victorian dolphin lampposts seen on London’s South Bank also contribute an interesting perspective to what is real and ethereal. All of my mermaid art explores the universe, infinity and the unconscious. Nature in evolution is an eternal pattern of chaos (fractal). The green cauliflower; the spiralling florets of which I have used to inspire fractal coral reefs also appear in two of my etchings. The world beneath the surface of the sea is a primordial soup from which complex myriad organisms are formed by the dynamical forces of flowing water.
“To see a world in a grain of sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour”.
An extract from the poem: “Auguries of Innocence” by William Blake (1757-1827)
