Malta
As a daughter of a Maltese mother, family holidays were spent in Malta where I derive much of my inspiration for this series of paintings and etchings. The rugged rural landscapes, the Medieval and Byzantine architecture, the honeyed tones and hues of the weathered and powdery limestone contrasting with the turquoise and emerald tones of the sea and the vibrant colours of fishermen’s village life; particularly the boats are what give this fascinating Island which is steeped in history such character.
Sadly, much of the beautiful historical landscape of the Island, and its smaller neighbouring partners, Gozo and Comino are being destroyed by the corrupt government and greedy property developers. I aim to continue painting the island before its landscape is destroyed completely.
