The nature of printmaking is such that no 2 pressings from the same plate will be exactly the same – even if identical colours are used! There is also the option of ordering the same plate to be pressed in an entirely different colour or set of colours! In order to produce just one pressing; ie a Handmade Print can take as long a whole hour! It is messy, time consuming and therefore impossible to produce even as many as 8 pressings from a medium sized Etching Plate in a day! Also, there is only a finite number of handmade prints that can be produced by a particular metal plate. For example; Copper is more expensive than Zink for a reason; it has a longer life. The artwork on the plate will fade in time; it only lasts so long.
