About
Hi, I’m Francesca!
I have always enjoyed drawing and painting.
Having survived a nomadic childhood, my father’s service in the Air Force suddenly terminated due to illness and he had to begin a new career. This disrupted my schooling, and I found solace in art.
I finished my foundation course at Epsom School of Art in 1992, then graduated from Harrow School of Art in 1995 with a BA Honours degree in Illustration. I continue to pursue art as a career, and sell work internationally as well as locally. I’ve won a number of awards through Molesey and Chelsea Art Societies and was also shortlisted for the World AIDS Day Art Competition 1997; ceremony of which was held at the National Portrait Gallery.
I work using a variety of different media – primarily oils, water-colours, etchings, occasionally mixed media collage and hand-painted designs on furniture. My subject matter is broad – anything from traditional portraiture, landscapes and architecture to fantasy including a series of mermaid based marine images with Escher-inspired organic and architectural influences.
Being born to a Maltese mother, I derive a great deal of my inspiration from my visits there. I have also produced a selection of local scenes from where I live around Hampton Court and East Molesey.
Commissions are also welcome. Additional interests include trekking, music from many different genres, guitar, dance, literature, yoga, kayaking and political activism.
