Autumn Walk, Bushy Park.
My latest ‘local scene’ Watercolour:
I was out walking with a friend in Bushy Park shortly before the 2nd Lockdown during the Autumn in 2020 when the clouds took on this incredible indigo hue, and the trees – swathed in an extraordinary copper glow. So captivated was I by this spectacular light, I just had to get my phone out to capture the moment with the view to producing a painting!
Contrary to what some people say about using a photograph as a reference rather than painting from life as being easier, (basically a cop out). To my mind, it CAN be easier to paint from life WHEN you have the time, the equipment to survive all weathers, and means of transport than it is to produce a painting from an uninspiring and badly taken photo. Artists for centuries have used aids to assist them in their creativity. The Camera Obscura of the 16th and 17th centuries was used by Leonardo Da Vinci and Vermeer. The very first version – as early as the 10th century!
