Pumped Up Kicks

Inspired by skateboarding on the South Bank, London and wanting to create a modern action poster type of artwork, ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ is a nod to the skateboarding video based on the song, Pumped Up Kicks by the band, ‘Foster The People’ in 2011.

Pumped Up Kicks is also my very first stab at Graffiti Art, however, rather than pick the obvious choice of using bold acrylic paint or oil, I chose instead the ancient craft of etching combined with watercolour which ironically has created a suitably urban edginess to the subject. The black ink of the etching evokes the dank, stained concrete of the London South Bank, dirtying the delicate watercolour washes of fuchsia pink, florescent yellow and turquoise.
